Tribe tops St. John's for third straight victory (05/09/06)

DELPHOS, Ohio — Five Indians each came up with two hits as the Fort Recovery baseball team won its third straight Monday, 6-5 over the Delphos St. John’s Blue Jays.

The Tribe (12-9, 3-4 Midwest Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never gave it up. The Blue Jays pulled to within one at 4-3, but Fort Recovery scored twice in the top of the fifth inning and held on for the victory.

Kevin Schoenherr paced the offense, going 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Tony Diller, Clint Tobe, Steve Trobridge and Troy Metzger also had two hits apiece.

Brad Fortkamp got the win, giving up four runs — three earned — on six hits in five innings. He struck out four batters.

Bobby Rammel came on for his second straight save, allowing one run on one walk in two innings.

Parkway blanks FR

FORT RECOVERY — The host Indians had more hits than the Parkway Panthers, but couldn’t get any runs in a 6-0 softball loss Monday.

Fort Recovery totalled five hits to the Panthers’ four, but slipped to 8-14 overall at 2-4 in the MAC as it committed three errors. Four of Parkway’s six runs were unearned.

Kinsey Wenning took the defeat, giving up five runs — two earned — on a couple of hits and two walks in 41/3 innings.

Beth May pitched the final 22/3 innings and allowed one unearned run.

Kelsie Will finished 2-for-3 for the Indians. Ciera Rammel, Lauren Wenning and Jennifer Link each had one hit.

Jay JV blasts Bluffton

Jay County’s junior varsity baseball team improved to 9-5 Monday with a 13-1, five-inning trouncing of the visiting Bluffton Tigers.

Trey Dunn paced the powerful offensive effort for the Patriots, who scored eight times in the fourth inning. He finished 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.

Phil Powell was 3-for-3 with two runs, and R.J. Fuller and Colton Lombardo scored two runs apiece. Fuller, Cody Sutton and Billy Wellman each had a double.

Fuller surrendered just one run on six hits for the win. He struck out five batters.[[In-content Ad]]
