UC hands Stars 3rd straight loss

UNION CITY — Scoring struggles continued for the South Adams High School girls basketball team Saturday in a 40-20 loss to the Union City Indians.
The Starfires also lost Friday, 51-15 to the Eastbrook Panthers.
South Adams (1-3) trailed by eight at the half Saturday and managed just two points in the third quarter as the Indians opened a double-digit lead. It is averaging less than 20 points per game so far this season.
Freshman Dzejna Ahmetovic went 2-of-3 from the field and added a free throw to lead the Starfires with five points. She also grabbed eight rebounds.
Taylor Farlow had four points and seven boards, and Lyndsey Chandler also scored four points.
On Friday, Eastbrook limited the Starfires to two points or fewer in the first, third and fourth quarters. Katrina Hawkins, Chandler and Ahmetovic all scored four points for SAHS, which turned the ball over 39 times.

Grapplers open 2-5
NEW CASTLE — Jay County’s wrestling team finished 2-5 Saturday at the New Castle Invitational, with victories of 66-18 over Milan and 63-18 over Lincoln. The Patriots dropped a one-point decision, 38-37, to Connersville, and also lost to champion Westfield, Columbus East and the host Trojans.
Drake Meska, a senior, led JCHS with a 6-1 effort at 145 points. The team also went 6-1 at 152 pounds, with Dyllan Derrickson winning all of his three matches and Nick Leonhard finishing 3-1.
Kyle Davidson (140) and Kyle Garringer (189) each went 5-2, and Zach Metcalf (160) and Eric Hemmelgarn (215) both finished 4-3.


High Rollers fall
HUNTINGTON — Norwell handed the Jay County High Rollers high school bowling team its first loss Saturday, 17-3.
Jay County fell behind 9-1 as Drew Wood was the only player to earn a point in the first game. He rolled a 192 for his victory, and added a 154 in the second for a team-high two-game series of 346.
Colby Cline and Richie Carducci each picked up points in the second game with scores of 191 and 187 respectively.

Miles wins AA
KOKOMO — Courtney Miles won the all-around title as she and another local gymnast competed for Marion’s Mid-America Gymnastics at the Flipsters All-Star Classic on Nov. 6.
Miles won the Level 7 balance beam with a career-best 9.3 on the way to posting a 36.25 for the all-around title. She was also first on the floor exercise with a 9.15.
She added runner-up efforts on the vault (9.275) and uneven bars (8.525).
Korinna Schindler had her best effort on the floor, finishing ninth with a 9.05. She added an 8.675 on the vault.[[In-content Ad]]
