Union City volleyball defeats Starfires

UNION CITY — The South Adams High School volleyball team fell just short of picking up its fourth victory Tuesday in a 23-25, 25-22, 20-25, 26-24, 15-8 loss to the Union City Indians.
Kara Delong had 20 digs and eight kills for the Starfires, who dropped to 3-27 on the season. Alyssa Bluhm had 15 assists and seven kills.
In the junior varsity match, South Adams rallied for a 16-25, 25-6, 25-6 win.
Mykala Coblentz had seven digs and seven aces in the victory, and Shelby Mellencamp also totaled seven aces. Jody Potts had eight assists, and Hannah Mitchel finished with four kills.

Eagles, Chiefs split
DUNKIRK — The East Jay and West Jay middle school football teams split games Tuesday. WJMS took the eighth grade game 18-14 to complete an undefeated season, and EJMS won the seventh grade game 14-8.
James Williams led the victory for the eighth grade Eagles with touchdown runs of 45 and 10 yards as he finished with 125 yards on 12 carries. Bryce Bantz ran six times for 74 yards, including a 20-yard TD run, and made eight tackles.
Levi Hummel ran for 73 yards and a TD on four attempts to lead the Chiefs to victory in the seventh grade game. Michael Vanover added a 4-yard TD run.
Kyle Blankenship turned in the lone TD for West Jay with a 15-yard run. He also made five tackles.

SA defeats Woodlan
BERNE — South Adams Middle School’s football teams ended their seasons Tuesday with a pair of wins. The eighth graders defeated visiting Woodlan 21-13 and the seventh graders rolled to a 32-0 victory.
Spencer Nice racked up more than 200 yards of total offense for the seventh grade Starfire s(2-5) and scored on runs of 25 and 55 yards. Drew LeFever added a pair of rushing TDs, and Dillon Morningstar had six tackles and a sack.
In the eighth grade game, Derek Wanner tossed three TD passes for SAMS (3-4). Kane Sumner caught two of them and also had 10 tackles.[[In-content Ad]]
