Vasquez scores pair in Starfire win

BERNE — Marco Vasquez scored two goals Monday as the host South Adams High School boys soccer team defeated the Muncie Southside Rebels 3-2.
Vasquez netted his first goal of the game 20 minutes into the first half, less than a minute after the Rebels broke the scoreless tie. His second goal came with five minutes left in the game and would be the eventual game winner.
Dustin Dellinger scored the other goal for the Starfires (3-7-1) on a pass from John O’Donnell, and Wes Thompson had five saves as goalkeeper.
Patriots JV perfect
The Jay County junior varsity football team used late-game theatrics for the second straight week to remain a perfect 5-0 on the season.
After trailing by 12 points in the third quarter Monday, Jay County rallied to take the lead with less than a minute left in the game as the Patriots defeated the visiting Shenandoah Raiders 34-32.
Drew Huffman, Thomas Noble and Alex Stout all scored touchdowns for the Patriots.

Freshman win
BLUFFTON — The Jay County freshman football team defeated Bluffton on Monday, 24-6.
Justin Crouch and Jacob Geesaman scored rushing touchdowns for the Patriots (2-3), and Tyler Leonhard returned an interception 95 yards for a score.
Bryan Stancliffe, Ivan Hemmelgarn and Dylan Martin all added two-point conversions for Jay County.

Fort edges Panthers
FORT RECOVERY — Cole Dues scored two touchdowns Monday as the Fort Recovery junior varsity football team defeated the Parkway Panthers, 22-20.

Dues scored on runs of 12 and 14 yards, and also added a two-point conversion.
Jackson Hobbs scored the other TD for the Indians on an 11-yard pass from Caleb Martin, and Hobbs caught a Martin pass for a two-point conversion as well.

Wilson downs West Jay
DUNKIRK — The Muncie Wilson Middle School Panthers took two of three matches from the host West Jay Eagles on Monday.
The Panthers’ eighth grade team defeated the Eagles 12-25, 25-16, 15-11, and took the sixth-grade match 25-18, 25-21. The West Jay seventh graders defeated the Panthers 25-23, 25-18.
Kaelyn Weaver led the eighth grade Eagles with a team-high 13 service points, including five aces. Hanna Ault added seven points, and Chloe Trissel led West Jay with three kills.
For the West Jay seventh graders, Rhegan Shimp led the way with eight points, Randi Ferguson tallied seven and Shelby Caldwell had six. Shimp also added three aces, while Kendal Garringer, Ferguson and Caldwell each added a pair.

Delta sweeps East Jay
The Delta Middle School Eagles swept the East Jay Chiefs on Monday.
The Eagles eighth graders won 25-10, 25-12, the seventh graders defeated the Chiefs 25-19, 25-11, and the Delta sixth graders beat East Jay 25-7, 25-19.
Irene Braun led the East Jay eighth graders with three points, two aces and three digs. Lucy Laux added three digs, Mallory Bost tallied two kills and Briana Muhlenkamp had three assists.
Sarah Walter led the East Jay seventh graders with five digs, one ace, one kill and one block, while Hanna Dillon tallied three digs, one ace and one assist. Maggie Pryor recorded six digs, and Kailee Denney had three digs, one kill and one ace.
For the East Jay sixth graders, Britney Mullins had a team-high eight points. Emma James had one kill for the Chiefs.[[In-content Ad]]
