Cori Vormohr earned all-conference honors Saturday. But she was the only one.

Vormohr won a couple of events as the Jay County swim teams hosted the Olympic Athletic Conference Championships Saturday, accounting for the Patriots’ only victories.

Jay County finished third in both the boys and girls competitions with 260 and 297 points respectively. Connersville won on the boys side with 407 points and Anderson Highland was first for the girls with 411.

Vormohr broke her own record en route to one of her titles Saturday. She finished first in the 100-yard butterfly in 1-minute, 3.33 seconds, one hundredth better than her pervious school-record mark.

The freshman also took first place in the 200 individual medley, clobbering the field by more than seven seconds in 2:23.09.

Fellow freshman Lauren Murrell narrowly missed an OAC title of her own in the 100 breaststroke. She finished as the OAC runner-up, reaching the wall just seventh tenths behind Highland’s Sarah Buck in 1:20.27.

Tom McCord and Steven Kelly posted the top efforts for the boys team, each earning a second-place result.

McCord was second in the 100 backstroke, trailing Travis Shelton of Highland in a career-best time of 1:00.17. He also placed third in the 50 freestyle in 25.00.

Kelly led a pack of Patriots as he finished second in diving behind Kevin Trent of Connersville. He scored 267.80 points, with teammates Todd McCowan and Donny McCowan placing second and third respectively.

Winter swimmers win

CONNERSVILLE — The 7-8-year-old girls were dominant for the Jay County Winter Swim Team this weekend, leading it to a first-place finish at the eight-team CAST Invitational.

Jay County scored 278 points at the meet for swimmers 10-and-younger held at Connersville. Cardinal Community Swim Club was second with 215.

Two swimmers brought home high-point honors, with Ashton Klopp leading a one-two-three Jay County finish in the 7-8-year-old girls division. She scored 25 points with wins in the 25-yard freestyle and 25 butterfly while teammates Sophie Bader and Anne Vormohr added 23 and 19 respectively.

Alex Bader took top honors in the 6-and-younger girls division with a mammoth 35-point effort. Her point total came by way of victories in the 25 freestyle, 25 butterfly, 25 breaststroke, 50 freestyle and 100 individual medley.[[In-content Ad]]
