Anne Vormohr set a pair of records Thursday in leading the Jay County Summer Swim Team to a 707-413 victory over visiting North Adams Central.

Vormohr broke team and pool marks in her two events at Portland Pool, taking first place with a time of 32.47 in the 11-12-year-old girls butterfly. She also set team and pool records by finishing the long freestyle in 1:06.21.

Also in 11-12-year-old events, Sophie Bader finished first in the girls backstroke, individual medley and short freestyle for Jay County (7-1), and Sok Vormohr took the boys butterfly, breaststroke and short freestyle.

The team had three triple winners in the 9-10-year-old events, with Audrey Shreve winning the girls individual medley, breaststroke and short freestyle and Alex Bader first in the long freestyle, butterfly and backstroke. Christopher McDowell took the boys butterfly, individual medley and short freestyle.

Kearsten Myers, Katy Smeltzer, Eme Miller and Mary Hudson each added three victories apiece.

Kelley keys comeback

DUNKIRK - Logan Kelley helped the Squidz erase a two-goal deficit Thursday as they came back for a 3-2 win over the Whales in the West Jay Community Center Summer Soccer League.

Lillee Monroe scored the first goal for the Squidz, and Kelley added tallies in the second and third quarters to lift them to the win. Logan Orso scored both goals for the Whales.

Sophie Fugiett posted two goals to lead the Lightning to a 4-0 win over the Thunder.

Speed leads Moose

Brody Speed hit a home run to lead Portland Moose to an 8-5 victory Thursday over Graphic Printing in Portland Junior League Sandy Koufax baseball. Fisher Packing topped Winchester 18-6.

In addition to the home run, Speed drove in three runs and scored twice. Chaz Carroll added two RBIs and a run.

Andrew Moeller homered for Graphic.

Sean Winget fell a single short of the cycle in the Fisher victory. Taylor Fugiett and Michael Bruggeman also added home runs.

Cainin Frost hit a homer for Winchester.

Two riders win

GRANDVIEW, Ohio - Juan Pablo Dotti and Andrew Crater each came up with victories for the AeroCat Cycling Team as it competing June 25-27 in the Ohio Triple Weekend races.

Dotti's win came in Saturday's Hyde Park Blast Criterium as he avoided a crash that took out teammate Emile Abraham on the way to the victory. Crater outdueled Daniel Campbell down the stretch Sunday to win the Tour de Grandview Criterium, in which he finished as the runner-up last year.

Abraham finished third at the Madeira Criterium June 25, with Dotti in fourth place. Crater was fourth at Hyde Park, and Dotti finished fifth at Grandview.

Dotti's trio of top-five finishes made him the overall points leader for the three-day event with Crater in second place.[[In-content Ad]]
