Vormohr sets pool record at Delta

MUNCIE — Anne Vormohr can add another record to her repertoire.
The Jay County sophomore swimmer set the Delta pool record in the 100-yard freestyle Tuesday, racing to a time of 54.58 seconds to set the mark.
In the process, Vormohr helped the Jay swimmers to a 97-89 win over the host Eagles. The Patriots are undefeated in dual meets with a 7-0 record.
The Jay boys fell 110-75.
Vormohr also won the 50 freestyle, and her cousin Sophie Bader earned victories in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly.
Jamie Valentine (100 breaststroke) and Katy Smeltzer (200 freestyle) also earned individual victories for the Patriots.
Josh Lykins and James Keen remained unbeaten in individual events, with Lykins picking up victories in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Keen won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke.
McIntire honored
A Portland native recently earned a high school coaching award.
Teresa McIntire, a Jay County High School graduate who coaches at North White, was honored as the Midwest Conference volleyball Coach of the Year.
McIntire’s squad went 24-9 this season and 6-1 in the Midwest Conference. It advanced to the Class A sectional championship game at Pioneer before falling to the host Panthers.
The conference award was the sixth of her career. She won her first such honor in 1991, picked up a second award in 1998 and then won three in a row from 2002 through ’04.
McIntire has led the North White program for 28 seasons. She was the head coach at JCHS from 1982 through ’84.
Thien leads Tribe
FORT RECOVERY — Grace Thien scored a team-high 10 points Tuesday as the Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team beat the New Bremen Cardinals 36-20.
The New Bremen seventh graders handed Fort Recovery a 30-8 loss.
Kiah Wendel added eight points for the eighth grade Indians, and Claire Metzger scored seven points.
Elise Gehle (six points) and Brooke Gaerke (two points) combined to score the only points for the Fort Recovery seventh graders.[[In-content Ad]]
