Waters leads nation in saves (05/06/06)

Mitch Waters saved both games for the Manchester College baseball team agianst Hanover April 29, lifting himself to the top spot in the nation in that category.
Waters leads all of NCAA Division III in saves with 10, one more than Mike Elsasses of Mount St. Joseph. He also has six wins with no losses, an 1.86 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 582/3 innings.
The senior saved the opening game, a 6-3 win, with one scoreless inning of work. He allowed one hit and struck out one batter.
He gave up one hit and struck out one in 12/3 innings to earn the save in the 8-5, game-two win.
Jill Roughia
Jay County - 2005
Ran on a winning relay team and had two other top-four efforts as the Huntington University women’s track team placed fourth at the 13-team Wilmington College Invitational April 29.
Roughia, Lauren Davenport, Katie Crandall and Brittany Fillman finished the 4x400 relay in a winning time of 4-minutes, 5.71 seconds.
She was also third in the 1,500 run in 5:06.45. She placed fourth in the 800 run with a time of 2:27.5.
Nicole VanSkyock
Jay County - 2004
Placed fourth in both of her events April 29 for the Anderson University women’s track team, which won its second straight Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conferece championship.
VanSkyock opened by finishing fourth in the 1,500 run at 5-minutes, 9.72 seconds. She took fourth again in the 800 run three seconds behind teammate Bethany Davis in 2:32.49.
Jenny Lehman
South Adams - 2004
Was part of a third-place relay finish for the Bluffton University women’s track team at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Defiance April 29.
Lehman joined Ashley Smith, Chantel Mangrum and Rita Muether for third place in the 4x100-meter relay in 52.10 seconds.
She was also sixth in the 100 hurdles in 17.33, and ninth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1-minute, 22.51 seconds.
Carrie Nichols
South Adams - 2003
Helped the University of St. Francis softball team to its only victory in the Mid-Central Conference tournament this week.
Nichols had went 2-for-3 as the Cougars scored a 4-0 win Wednesday to oust Goshen College from the double-elimination tournament. She had a double and an RBI.
St. Francis lost its tournament opener 3-1 in 10 innings to Spring Arbor and dropped out of the tournament Wednesday with a 6-1 loss to Huntington.

Notched a couple of hits in the Ancilla College baseball team’s 12-7 opening game loss in a double-header against Henry Ford Community College April 29.
