Waters stays perfect for Manchester (04/15/06)

A Jay County graduated continued his outstanding year, earning another victory for the Manchester College baseball team Sunday.
Mitch Waters, a 2002 JCHS graduate, improved to 4-0 as he pitched the Spartans to a 14-1 win over Mount St. Joseph. He started and went 52/3 innings, allowing just one run on three hits.
He struck out seven and walked six.
Waters has been the ace of the Manchester pitching staff this year. He boasts a team-best 1.62 ERA to go along with his undefeated record.
Pete Martin
South Adams - 2002
Earned a couple of wins for the Bluffton University men’s tennis team topped Mount St. Joseph 9-0 Monday.
Martin blanked Tom Bowman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. He also teamed with Blake Babcock to defeat Bowman and Andrew Hall 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.
He dropped matches against Franklin, Anderson, Hanover and Defiance in Beaver losses.
Jill Roughia
Jay County - 2005
Competed in a pair of events for Huntington University’s women’s track team, which was 13 out of 19 teams at IUPUI’s Little State Championship April 7.
Roughia was ninth in the 800-meter run, recording a time of 2-minutes, 26.46 seconds. She was 13th in the 1,500 run with a time of 5:01.20.
Heath Williams
Jay County - 2004
Had a big day at the plate to help the Ancilla College baseball team stay close in a 9-6 loss to Valparaiso in game-one of a double-header Monday.
Williams finished with three hits and a stolen base in the opening game. He also had two hits in a 6-2 loss to Mott April 8 and a double in a 15-7 defeat at the hands of Glen Oaks Tuesday.
Chad Keen
Jay County - 2005
Was the hard-luck loser in the Ancilla baseball team’s 6-2 loss to Mott April 8.
Keen gave up just one earned run as he fell to 0-4. He allowed three hits and struck out three batters in 52/3 innings.
Jenny Lehman
South Adams - 2004
Finished in the top 10 in one event as the Bluffton University women’s track team placed ninth in a 12-team field at Ohio Wesleyan April 7.
Lehman placed 10th in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.75 seconds.
Carrie Nichols
South Adams - 2003
Had a single in the University of St. Francis softball team’s 2-1 loss to Marian College in the second game of a double-header Monday.
Nicole VanSkyock
Jay County - 2004
Placed eighth in her only event as the Anderson University women’s track team won the AU Outdoor Invitational Thursday.
VanSkyock finished the 1,500-meter run in 5-minute, 11.4 seconds to finish eighth. She was also 20th in the 800 run at the 19-team Little State Championship April 7 hosted by IUPUI in 2:31.55.
Abby Arnold
Jay County - 2002
Was honored by the Ball State women’s swim team at its awards banquet April 8.
Arnold was named the team’s outstanding senior, which is given in honor of “athletic ability, leadership, sportsmanship, integrity and dedication to the team.”
She is also a four-year letter winner, and served as a Cardinal team captain for the 2005-06 season.[[In-content Ad]]
