Waters wins 2 for Rockets (06/30/08)

The Portland Rockets ran their record to 15-6 so far this year, taking three out of four of their weekend games.
Portland swept Warsaw at home Saturday, winning both games by 9-3 finals. It dropped the opener in Fort Wayne Sunday 2-1 to Shady Nook, but then bounced back to defeat LaMargarita Blues 5-1.
Mitch Waters earned two of the victories, tossing four innings Saturday in the opener against Warsaw and six more Sunday versus LaMargarita. The offense gave Waters plenty of support against Warsaw, staking him to a 9-0 lead behind three hits apiece from Ian Sanders and Ryan Shell.
Riley Muhlenkamp racked up three hits in game two, and Aaron Pfeffenberger, Steve Wiegle and Sanders added two apiece. Corey Murrey tossed a complete game for the victory.
Garrett Wiejak limited Shady Nook to two runs, but took the defeat as the Rockets managed just three hits. Atkinson finished off Waters' win over LaMargarita, in which Jake Carr had two hits.
Hurricanes dominate
DUNKIRK - Three Hurricane players each had five or more goals Saturday as they topped the Twisters 17-0 in the West Jay Community Center Summer Soccer League.
In other games, the Jaguars beat the Cheetahs 12-3 and the Lightning topped the Thunder 9-1.
Ian McCombs and Matt Paquette each scored six times to pace the Hurricanes. Mitch McCombs had five goals.
Ian Miller led the Jaguars' victory with six goals, and Daniel Fugiett scored five times to power the Lightning.
Sannings increases lead
MARIA STEIN, Ohio - Sannings Service Station increased its lead in the 2008 American Red Cross/FCC Go-Kart Grand Prix Series with a victory in the feature race Saturday at Maria Stein Country Fest.
Sannings, which was the runner-up in last week's race at Fort Recovery Harvest Jubilee, finished first by less than a quarter of a second over Taylor Building and Construction. Haulette Manufacturing was third, five seconds off the pace.
The victory, along with a win in its heat race, pushed Sannings' series lead to 12 points over Taylor, 77-65. Coldwater Young Farmers is third with 55 points.
Taylor won the B-Main race at Country Fest. Other heat winners were Lennertz Conveyor Systems and MS Welding/Homan Equipment/Tanasea Powdercoating.[[In-content Ad]]
