Wellman powers undefeated Patriots (12/15/2008)
JCHS girls basketball
Lindsey Wellman was ready.
Coming off of her lowest scoring game of the season, the Jay County High School junior put the Class 4A No. 8 Patriots on her shoulders.
She racked up 22 points, including eight of her team's 17 in the fourth quarter, to lead a 57-50 victory Saturday over the visiting Anderson Highland Scots.
JCHS (9-0) was up by just two at the half and was still nursing just a four-point leading heading into the fourth quarter. But the home team wouldn't allow the Scots (2-6) to end its undefeated run.
Wellman's 22 points included four 3-pointers as she made one in each quarter. She had just two points in Tuesday's victory over Muncie Central.
Gina Muhlenkamp hit a pair of second-half 3-pointers and finished with 10 points. Kaelee Keller had seven points, a team-high seven rebounds and three assists, and Pazia Speed totaled seven points and four assists.
Brittany Mann, Cara Garringer and Mackenzie Loy all grabbed six rebounds to help the Patriots to a slight advantage on the glass.
Jay County, which remains third overall in the state in the Sagarin Ratings, has scored 50 or more points in eight of its nine victories. It has not allowed more than 50 to an opponent all season.
Krosley Ogden led a balanced effort from Highland with 11 points, six of which came in the fourth quarter.
Britney Ball scored eight of her 10 in the second half, and Jara Ice and Emily Jones added eight points apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
