Werst, Farlow pace Starfires

HUNTINGTON — Jacob Werst and Cady Farlow led the Starfire swim teams to victory Tuesday.
Each won a pair of events as the South Adams High School boys and girls swim teams topped the Huntington North Vikings 77-68 and 86-82 respectively.
Werst took the top spot in the boys 200 individual medley in front of teammate Mitchell Kaverman in 2 minutes, 30.53 seconds and also won the 100 butterfly in 1:04.88. Farlow, a freshman, paced the girls with victories in 1:11.22 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:25.09 in the 200 individual medley.
Cory Sank (200 freestyle), Chris Inniger (500 freestyle) and Mitchell Kaverman (100 breaststroke) each added individual wins for the boys, and Kara DeLong (100 backstroke) and Michaela Rupp (100 butterfly) picked up first-place finishes for the girls.
FR girls ranked 8th
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Fort Recovery girls basketball team jumped to eighth in the Division IV Associated Press poll released Tuesday.
The Indians (10-1), who made the state finals in Division III in 2011 and debuted at No. 10 last week, picked up 62 poll points to finish 16 behind seventh-ranked Waterford (11-2) and seven ahead of No. 9 Berlin Hiland (55). Ottoville (12-0) held the No. 1 spot in the poll for the second straight week with 212 points.
FRHS climbed in the poll after picking up a 45-41 win Thursday over Coldwater. Both teams entered the game undefeated in the Midwest Athletic Conference.
No other MAC teams were ranked in the top 10, with Marion Local and St. John’s finishing 12th and 15th in the Division IV voting respectively.
Tribe edges ’Cats
MINSTER, Ohio — Fort Recovery Middle School’s eighth grade girls basketball team jumped over .500 Tuesday as it knocked off the Minster Wildcats 23-22. The seventh grade team lost 47-22.
Trisha Thien scored seven points for the eighth grade Indians, who improve to 6-5. Kendra Siefring added six points.
Jocie Kaiser finished with eight points to pace the seventh grade squad (5-6). Whitney Will added five points.[[In-content Ad]]
