West Jay boys open with wins (11/12/04)

DUNKIRK — West Jay’s boys basketball teams opened their seasons Thursday with a pair of convincing wins.
The eighth grade team opened a 21-3 first-quarter lead on the way to a 56-21 victory over Union (Modoc). The seventh grade team also blasted Union, 59-17.
Blake Price and Ty Fullenkamp each scored 12 points for the eighth grade Eagles, who posted 21 points in the first and fourth quarters. Brady Mills added 11 points, and Jon Hawn was also in double figures with 10.
The seventh grade team scored at least 14 points in each quarter while limiting Union to a maximum of six in the first. Josh Beaty led the effort with 15 points, and Willie Mayfield added 10.
Nate Brown scored eight points, and John Pettus, Drew Locke and Michael Daniels each added six.
Hockey league
The Wings-n-Wheels roller hockey league in Celina is preparing for its fourth season.
There are two leagues, one from boys and girls from age 4 through students in high school, and one for adults ages 16-and-older. The cost is $60, and equipment is available at no charge.

Football combine
Hoosier Gridiron will hold a football combine Sunday, Dec. 5 at Anderson University for high school players interested in continuing their careers at the collegiate level.
Athletes will be evaluated for strength, speed and agility, and there will be special “positional demonstration sessions.” There will also be a speaker who will discuss the NCAA Clearinghouse, financial aid, NCAA recruiting rules and college admissions.
