West Jay tops Tigers (03/11/2009)

DUNKIRK - The West Jay Middle School wrestling team capped its season Tuesday with a 72-16 victory over the visiting Bluffton Tigers.
Daniel Ring led the Eagles to the win in their final match, finishing his heavyweight match with a pin in just 34 seconds. Donnie Cosner (200) earned a pin in 39 seconds, and Carrolton Fischer (120) recorded a pin in 1-minute, 29 seconds.
The remainder of the WJMS points were scored on forfeits. The team finished the season with an 11-1 record.
J.P. Fischer and Chase Louck each had pins in junior varsity matches.
Jay falls to SA
Caitlin Mark won a pair of events Tuesday, but the Jay County middle school swim teams each lost to South Adams. The girls squad suffered a 154-136 defeat and the boys fell 159-67.
Mark dominated the 400-yard freestyle for Jay County, winning by more than 20 seconds with a time of 5-minutes, 14.41 seconds. She also took the 100 backstroke in 1:17.49.
Katy Smeltzer added a victory in the 50 butterfly in 33.34, and Rhianon Mills won the diving competition with 93.9 points.
Zach James picked up the only individual win for the Jay County boys, taking the 50 freestyle in 28.75. He also teamed with Evan Mathias, Zane Shreve and Jeremy Moser for a winning time of 2:17.26 in the 200 freestyle relay.[[In-content Ad]]
