West Jay wrestlers win pair

DUNKIRK — West Jay Middle School’s wrestling team closed its season with a pair of victories Tuesday, defeating Bluffton 33-6 and Blackford 54-12.
Five different grapplers posted two pins apiece for the Eagles, with most of those coming in less than a minute. Turning in two pins each were Grant Alsip (135), Logan Bantz (145), Tristan VanSkyock (152), Brandon Hollingsworth (175) and Mitch Bennett (HWT), and Dallas Dudelston (105) also added two victories.
Bryce Bantz (125) had the quickst pin of the night in just 15 seconds against Blackford, and Jacob Geesaman (90) and Chad Homan (160) also added victories by pin.
Keen, Vormohr set records
The Jay County middle school swim team had its first home meet of the season Tuesday, but not much changed. The girls team picked up another victory, and James Keen broke another record.
Jay County topped South Adams 166-126 in the girls competition to stay undefeated. Keen broke the team record in the 100-yard individual medley as the boys fell 167-100.
A night after breaking the team record in the 100 backstroke, Keen turned in the boys team’s only victory Tuesday with a time of 1:03.92 in the individual medley. He broke the record of 1:04 held by Caleb Dann.
Anne Vormohr also improved on her own school record in the 100 backstroke, posting a time of 1:03.44 as Jay County swept the relays and won five individual events. Other swimmers who won an event or contributed to a relay victory were Sophie Bader, Katy Smeltzer, Ashley Mark, Sydney Mathias, Emma Laux, Darcy Parker and Larissa Boles.[[In-content Ad]]
