Wilkins, Adams earn conference honors (06/12/07)

The Jay County High School girls tennis team held its awards ceremony recently, presenting accolades to several honorable mention recipients.
Senior Carissa Wilkins and junior Megan Adams each earned All-Olympic Athletic Conference honorable mention. Wilkins, Megan Knittle and Jenna Valentine picked up awards for Academic All-State honorable mention as well.
Wilkins, the team's only three-year letter winner, also competed in the North/South Senior Tennis All-Star event Sunday in Indianapolis. She earned 1.5 points to help lead the North team to a 13.5-12.5 victory.
Jay-Randolph splits pair
PARKER CITY - The Jay-Randolph America Legion baseball team split its opening pair Saturday, falling 11-8 in the opener before bouncing back for a 6-2 win in the second game.
Cameron Stephens powered J-R to its first win, following a double by A.J. Vore and a single from Thomas McCowan with a three-run home run in the first inning. He finished with two hits and also earned the pitching win as he allowed just two runs on five hits.
McCowan finished with two hits, two RBIs and a run, and Trey Dunn had a hit and a run.
J-R also scored first in the opener, but the lead was short-lived as Anderson posted eight runs in the top of the second inning. Brock Morrison took the loss, allowing 11 runs - all earned - on seven hits.
Justin Schwieterman powered the offense with two hits, three RBIs and a run.
Andy Hughes and Stephens each had two hits and two runs, and Luke Morrison scored three times.[[In-content Ad]]
