Willis advances to state

KENDALLVILLE — South Adams sophomore Sydney Willis shot a 4-over-par 74 Saturday in the East Noble regional at Noble Hawk Golf Links to earn a berth in the IHSAA Girls Golf State Finals.
Willis birdied the first and third holes en route to a 1-over 36 on the front nine. She shot even on six holes on the back nine to finish in a three-way tie for the third-best score in the tournament.
The top three teams and top five individuals not on advancing teams earn state berths.
Penn’s Kari Bellville was the match medalist with a 71.
Willis tees off in the state finals at 8:39 a.m. Saturday at Legends Golf Club in Franklin.

Starfires shut out Warriors
BERNE — Alaina Johnston scored two second-half goals Saturday as the South Adams girls soccer team shut out the Woodlan Warriors 3-0.
Johnston added an assist on Sharon Balsiger’s goal and led the Starfires with seven shots.
Tori Reiley recorded an assist on Johnston’s second goal. Riley Liechty tallied three shots, and Michaela Rupp added two.


Woodlan tops SA in PKs
BERNE — The Woodlan Warriors boys soccer team scored two goals in the final 10 minutes Saturday and outscored South Adams in penalty kicks to win 4-3.
Woodlan tied the game at 3-3 to forge a tie in regulation. After a scoreless 14 minutes of overtime, the Warriors converted 4-of-5 penalty kicks to earn the win.
Marco Vasquez and Lathan Luginbill converted two penalty kicks for the Starfires. Vasquez added a goal during regulation, and Dustin Dellinger netted two goals in the first half.

Fort spikers lose two
CONVOY, Ohio — The Fort Recovery volleyball team went 1-2 in the Crestview Lady Knight Invitational on Saturday.
The Indians dropped matches against the host Crestview Knights and Ottawa Glandorf Titans before defeating the Old Fort Stockaders in the final match.
Devin Post had team highs in kills (14) and digs (12) during the tournament. Cassidy Rammel had a team-high 30 assists and added 10 kills and three aces.
Kendra Siefring tallied 13 kills and five digs, and Sierra Pugh had 19 assists and two kills.[[In-content Ad]]
