Willis leads Starfires

GENEVA — Sydney Willis led the South Adams High School girls golf team for the second straight match as the Starfires defeated the Blackford Bruins 197-224 Monday at Golf Club of the Limberlost.
Willis, a sophomore, shot a 41 to earn match medalist honors and a seven-stroke victory over teammate Kelli Lehman.
Willis finished with a birdie on the par-3 ninth, and was even on the par-4 first and fourth holes.
Alleigh Wingler and Alaina Johnston posted matching totals of 54 to round out the team score for the Starfires.
Zoie Mann led the Bruins with a 52.
The Starfires return to action at 5 p.m. today as they host Bishop Luers.
FR boys fall
MINSTER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery boys golf team lost to the Minster WIldcats 153-172 Monday at Arrowhead Golf Club.
All four Indians golfers finished within six strokes of each other, as senior Kent Retz led the Tribe with a 40.
Retz’s classmates Derek Backs (41), Elijah Kahlig (45) and Stewy Alig (46) rounded out the Tribe’s top four.
Fort Recovery returns to action at 4:30 p.m. today against Anna.
FR girls downed
ARCANUM, Ohio — A match after earning its first victory since 2007, the Fort Recovery girls golf team fell to the Arcanum Trojans 246-278 Monday at Beachwood Golf Course.
Freshman Emily Bruns led the Indians with a 66.
Sophomore Cori Stone posted the second-best score for the Tribe, shooting a 67, and her classmates Tori Vaughn (72) and Trisha Thein (73) closed out the Indians’ top four.
The Tribe returns to action at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on the road at St. Henry.[[In-content Ad]]
