WINCHESTER - The Falcons were Golden in the mid-to-upper weight classes Thursday evening.
Jay County High School's wrestling team won four of the five contested matches from 103 through 135 pounds. But Winchester's Golden Falcons took everything from 140 through heavyweight, most in convincing fashion, to top the visiting Patriots 47-27.
In Winchester's streak of wins in eight straight weight classes, only one came by decision. Two more were by major decision, and the remaining five were as a result of pins.
Three of Jay County's victories came by pin, all in the second period.
Ben Theurer scored the fastest of those, finishing off Mason Hummer in 2-minutes, 37 seconds at 135 pounds. Caleb Culy (130) pinned Jordan Simmons in 3:18, and Drake Meska finished off Jon James at 3:26.
The only other contested victory for the Patriots (9-5) came from Josh Lochtefeld at 125 pounds as he knocked off Jake Gibson 7-4. Casey Kenney took the 112-pound match by forfeit.
Junior varsity
Seth Drumm scored the only victory for Jay County in four matches. He won the 130-pound match over Kevin Dines with a 14-2 major decision.[[In-content Ad]]
