WJ comes back to beat Warriors (09/21/05)

GASTON — West Jay’s eighth grade volleyball team rallied from a game-one defeat to top the Wes-Del Warriors Tuesday 17-25, 25-17, 15-12. The seventh grade team lost 25-12, 25-19, and the sixth graders took a 25-7, 25-15 defeat.
Amber McCowan scored a team-best 12 points for the Eagle eighth graders.
Brittney Watson had eight points, including three aces, and Brianna Dahlstrom scored all of her five points in the game-two win. Brittney Muhlenkamp racked up six kills.
Breanna Dahlstrom scored five points, and Denia Hough had three for the seventh grade team (0-6). Taylir Ellis had one kill.
The sixth grade squad got four points from Megan Sawyer and two from Katelin Michael. Sawyer and Kelsey Sell each had one kill.
Eagle gridders stumble
DUNKIRK — West Jay’s football teams managed just one touchdown in a couple of losses to Hartford City Tuesday. The eighth grade team lost 24-6, and the seventh grade team was shut out 38-0.
The only score of the games for the Eagles came in the second quarter of the eighth grade game. Josh Beaty recovered a fumble and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown.
Ryan Miskinis had a fumble recovery for the seventh graders, and Zach Cash made 11 tackles.[[In-content Ad]]
