WJ, EJ girls score victories (11/28/07)

WJMS/EJMS girls basketball

All of Jay County's middle school girls basketball teams picked up wins recently.

The West Jay Eagles defeated the Montpelier Spartans Tuesday, with the eighth graders winning 21-15 while the seventh grade team triumphed 31-18. East Jay's Chiefs scored a pair of double-digit wins Monday over Winchester Driver - 26-12 for the seventh graders and 32-15 for the eighth grade squad.

Marissa Murrell set the pace for the West Jay eighth graders, scoring six points. Paige Alsip and Jessi Chittum each finished with four points.

Megan Price and Shelby Shirk each reached double figures for the WJMS seventh grade team with 13 and 10 points respectively. Taylor Franklin added six points.

Rachelle Jackson scored 10 points to lead the Chief seventh graders, who went scoreless in the second quarter but still had the lead and then outscored Drive 11-2 in the final period. Lexie Gierhart scored six points, and Hannah Ainsworth had four.

Mariah Hornaday racked up 17 points to power the eighth grade team. Maria Murphy followed with six points, and LeAnn Horn added four.[[In-content Ad]]
