Woodlan blasts Starfires (02/02/05)

Local Roundup

WOODBURN — The Warriors made a statement Tuesday. It was one the South Adams girls basketball team wasn’t particularly interested in hearing.

Woodlan hammered the Starfires for the second time this season, dominated the second half en route to a 63-37 triumph.

South Adams (2-16) will need to make some changes if it has hopes of a tournament upset, as it will meet the Warriors for the third time in sectional semifinal action Friday, Feb. 11 at Heritage. It lost the first meeting between the two teams by a 53-38 final.

The Starfires trailed by four after one period and by 11 at the half before being blown away after the break. Woodlan (12-6) outscored them 22-3 in the third period to put the game away.

Julie Muhlenkamp was the only South Adams player to reach double figures, scoring eight of her 10 points in the first half. Erin McCollum added seven points, and Natalie Haines scored all of her six points on a pair of first-quarter 3-pointers.
