Wurster, Habegger key Stars' victory

Local roundup

HUNTINGTON - Three victories proved to be enough for the Starfire boys.

South Adams High School's boys swim team dropped nine out of 12 events Tuesday, but used its depth to eke out a 93-92 victory over the Huntington North Vikings. The SAHS girls team managed just two wins and suffered a 103-77 loss.

Caleb Wurster and Alex Habegger led the Starfires to the victory, each winning one individual event. Wurster took the top spot in the 500 freestyle in 5 minutes, 37.1 seconds, and Habegger was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.

They also teamed with Cole Farlow and Joel Schmidt for a winning time of 3:54.68 in the 400 freestyle relay.

Erika Waugh picked up the only victories for the South Adams girls team. She finished the 500 freestyle in 5:34.44 and the 100 backstroke in 1:04.99.

Habegger, Wurster, Cory Sank and Johnny Everidge all added runner-up finishes for the boys team. Alexia Fox placed second in two events for the Starfire girls, and Kinsey Rupp and Jansen Yoder were each second in one event.
