Comer FT shooting leads Cougars
Kegan Comer hit the 20-point mark three times during his freshman season. He’s already done it twice this year.
The 2013 Jay County High School graduate was perfect from the foul line Tuesday as he scored 21 points for the second straight game in a 79-59 victory over Indiana Tech.
Comer, who shot 83 percent from the line last season, nailed all of his 15 attempts against the Warriors. He also had a team-high four assists while adding four rebounds, two steals and a block as the NAIA No. 15 Cougars improved to 3-0.
The sophomore was on fire from the field in the first two games of the season as he shot 7-of-11 with two 3-pointers Saturday on the way to his 21-point effort. He also had five assists, four rebounds, two blocks and a steal as USF blasted Great Lakes Christian 117-58.
In Friday’s opener he was 5-of-7 from the field and hit both of his 3-point tries. He totaled 14 points, three assists, one rebound and one steal in just 16 minutes in a 113-65 win over Ohio Midwestern.
Scott Schwieterman, Comer’s former classmate, transferred to Indiana Tech this year after playing his freshman season at Anderson. He did not play Tuesday because of an injury.
Eme Miller
Jay County – 2012
Led the Defiance College women’s cross country team in competition Saturday in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Earlham.
Miller placed sixth to help the Yellow Jackets to a sixth-place finish in the 10-team event. She posted a time of 23 minutes, 9 seconds, in the 6K race while Franklin’s Anna Murdock won in 22:22.
Erin Hunt
Jay County – 2011
Made her first start of the season Tuesday in the Bethel College women’s basketball team’s 85-72 victory over St. Francis (Ill.).
Hunt hit a 3-pointer and finished with five points, four assists and two rebounds for the Pilots (2-2). She also had two assists and a rebound Saturday in a 112-67 loss to Saint Xavier.
Kelsey Fiely
Fort Recovery – 2013
Played strong defense for the University of Northwestern Ohio volleyball team Saturday in its 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 20-25, 19-17 victory over Lourdes.
Fiely finished second in digs for the Racers with five. She saw action in four of the five sets.
Josh Lykins
Jay County – 2014
Finished third in the 200-yard butterfly Friday in Lindsey Wilson College’s 114-81 loss to Asbury (Ky.).
He posted a time of 2 minutes, 11.58 seconds, nine seconds behind Asbury’s CJ Moritz.
Lykins also finished fourth in the 50 freestyle (23.42) and anchored the Blue Raiders’ 400 freestyle relay team that also finished third.
Jason Pottkotter
FRHS – 2012
Played in Friday’s season opener for the University of Northwestern Ohio men’s basketball team, which fell 113-84 to Bethel.
Pottkotter missed his only shot in five minutes of action. The Racers are 1-2 on the season.
