Last week vs. Woodlan: Jay County had three straight drives in the second half end inside the Woodlan 30-yard line and had trouble stopping the Warriors in a 34-7 loss to its new conference rivals. Jay County threw the ball for 116 yards, its highest total in more than two years.
Season leaders: Passing — Nick Clemens – 11-of-23 for 98 yards and three interceptions. Rushing — Drew Huffman – 59 carries for 411 yards and two touchdowns. Receiving — Aaron Neal – four catches for 39 yards. Defense — Mario Rodriguez – 37 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one fumble recovery.
South Adams Starfires
Berne, 1-5 (1-3)
Coach: Rick Burkhalter, second year
Conference: Allen County Athletic Conference
Last week vs. Adams Central: South Adams gave up a 14-point lead at halftime to county rival Adams Central, and the Flying Jets scored the only touchdown in overtime for a 21-14 victory. Senior quarterback Derek Wanner threw one touchdown to Isaiah Amstutz, who ran for the other Starfire score.
Season leaders: Passing — Derek Wanner – 52-of-104 for 597 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. Rushing — Skylar Schoch – 67 carries for 422 yards and five touchdowns. Receiving — Schoch – 21 receptions for 238 yards and two touchdowns. Defense — Drew LeFever – 53 tackles and four tackles for loss.
Last meeting: Jay County had 10 players rush for a combined 508 yards in a 60-0 blowout of the visiting Starfires in 1984.?The Patriots led 14-0 after the first quarter, but burst open the floodgates with 25 points in the second period. Brad Mock led the JCHS rushing attack with 172 yards on 19 carries, and Brian Stocker scored three touchdowns.
Game notes: This is the sixth meeting all time between the Patriots and Starfires. Jay County leads the series 4-1 and won the last two meetings.?South Adams’ only came by a 20-7 score in 1977 ... Jay County is without its leading rusher Drew Huffman, who is out for the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury. Cole Stigleman stepped in as the top runner in the last two games. ...
