Bishop Luers shuts out South Adams

BERNE — The South Adams boys soccer team kept the Class 1A No. 9 Bishop Luers Knights scoreless for the majority of the first half.
But Starfires also only managed two shots on goal.
Bishop Luers found twine with three minutes left in the first half, and added two more insurance goals in the second, defeating South Adams 3-0 in the Sectional 39 tournament at SAHS.
It is the fourth straight sectional title for Bishop Luers, which lost in overtime of the semi-state final last season to eventual state champion Guerin Catholic.
McGerran Clouser had seven saves in goal for South Adams (6-7-1).

Stars lose in semis
FORT WAYNE — After Blackhawk Christian scored two goals early in the first half, South Adams’ girls soccer team cut its deficit in half three minutes into the second half.
But the Braves notched two more goals for a 4-1 victory in the Class 1A Sectional 37 tournament at Fort Wayne Soccer Club.
The Braves will meet fifth-ranked Canterbury in the sectional championship at 2 p.m. Saturday.
SAHS junior Madison Morgan scored the only goal for the Starfires (5-13). She connected on a pass from Sylvia Marbach to start the second half.
Jade Jauregui had 14 saves for South Adams, and Riley Leichty had a pair of stops.

Pearson leads Tribe
FORT RECOVERY — Clayton Pearson rushed for a pair of touchdowns and threw for two more Thursday in the Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade football team’s 36-6 win against the Minster Wildcats.
The seventh grade Indians lost, 18-12.
Pearson rushed for scores of 3 and 65 yards, and connected with Payton Jutte and Robby LeFevre for 39- and 51-yard TD passes.
Minster’s only score came on an interception returned for a touchdown.
For the FRMS seventh graders, Riley Pearson and Riley Post found the end zone, with Pearson scoring on a 22-yard scamper and Post catching a 38-yard pass from Garrett Faller.
