Fort Recovery slips in AP poll

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery High School football team fell four spots in Monday’s Associated Press Poll.
The Indians (5-2, 3-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) came in at No. 10 in Division VII this week after a 28-23 loss to Minster on Friday.
Fort Recovery will face its biggest test of the season so far when it hosts Marion Local, the defending state champions and top-ranked team.
The Flyers (7-0, 5-0 MAC), received 25 of the 26 first-place votes after shutting out defending Division V state champion Coldwater 20-0. Glouster Trimble and Shadyside round out the top three spots, with Caldwell sitting at No. 4.
The top four schools in Division VII are undefeated.
Fort Recovery, which is seeking its first playoff appearance in program history, got 31 points from AP voters, eight behind No. 9 Tiffin Calvert.

Stars fall to Luers
BERNE — The South Adams volleyball team lost a tough five-set match Monday to the visiting Bishop Luers Knights, 25-19, 22-25, 22-25, 25-20, 15-8.
Morgan Alberson had 10 kills to lead the Starfire offense. The sophomore also tallied 13 digs and two blocks.
Kylie Grabau notched a team-high eight blocks to go with her seven kills, and Lauren Smith recorded 21 digs.
Julie Grabau had 20 assists, and Cindy In’tGroen tallied four blocks.
The Starfire junior varsity team beat the Knights, 17-25, 25-22, 15-8.
Jade Farlow led SAHS with seven kills, Shania Neal tallied 17 digs and Chastity Guereca notched 13 assists.
Casi Evans also reached double-digit digs with 13.

Patriots shut out
LEO — Jay County’s junior varsity and freshman football teams struggled against conference opponent Leo on Monday.
The JV Patriots lost to the Lions, 31-0, and the freshmen fell 34-0.
Both teams are set to wrap up their 2014 campaigns at home on Monday.
The JV squad will host the Heritage Patriots at 6 p.m., with the freshmen welcoming the Mississinewa Indians at 7:30 p.m.

Tribe undefeated
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s freshman football team is still perfect.
The Indians played host to MAC rival Marion Local on Monday and beat the Flyers, 12-0.
Will Homan scored the first touchdown for the Tribe on a 13-yard run, and Ryan Braun punched it in from 1 yard out for the other score.
The Indians improved to 4-0 on the season, and will hit the road Monday to visit the St. Henry Redskins.
