Lykins third for Blue Raiders
Collegiate Check-up
Josh Lykins is continuing to make an impact for the Blue Raiders.
The 2014 Jay County High School graduate finished third in the 100-yard freestyle Oct. 10 in Lindsey Wilson College’s 138-65 loss to Birmingham-Southern (Ala.).
His time of 51.53 seconds was just 1.45 seconds behind Ben Hodde of Birmingham-Southern.
Lykins also placed fourth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.88 seconds. He swam the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay with Hayden Pendergraft, Jonas Muller and Zac Patzer. The quartet finished in 1:48.44.
Alyssa Bluhm
South Adams – 2014
Competed with the Taylor University volleyball team in the Panther Invitational Oct. 11 and 12 in Grand Rapids, Mich.
The Trojan freshman tallied three kills, one dig and an assist as Taylor dropped matches to St. Xavier, St. Thomas and Saint Ambrose before defeating Olivet Nazarene.
Bluhm has played in 18 matches this season, tallying 16 kills, four digs and two assists.

Ran for the Indiana Wesleyan cross country team Oct. 10 in the Bethel College Invitational.
The Wildcat freshman crossed the finish line in 43rd place in 20:28.7 to finish ninth on her team. IWU placed fourth in the meet with 107 points. Anna Bos of Trinity Christian was the overall race winner in 18:17, and Indiana Tech won with a team score of 43.
Tim Lehman
South Adams – 2012
Also competed at the Bethel Invitational for the Goshen College men’s cross country team.
Lehman posted a time of 27 minutes, 23.5 seconds. He was 43rd overall.
Drew Houck
Jay County – 2011
Played for the Indiana University East men’s golf team, which finished last Sunday in a three-team meet hosted by Cincinnati State at Weatherwax Golf Course.
Houck shot 87 for the Wildcats, posting the No. 5 score for the team. He also had an 87 Oct. 11 as IU East placed fourth at the Cincinnati State Invitational.
Randa Gillespie
Jay County – 2012
Saw action for the Manchester University volleyball team Oct. 11 in its 23-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-19 loss to Alma.
Gillespie saw action in all four sets as the Spartans fell to 4-18. She played in one set Wednesday in a 25-14, 17-25, 25-13, 21-25, 15-7 loss to Defiance.
