Bruns advances to golf district

LIMA, Ohio — For the second consecutive year, a Fort Recovery boys golfer has reached the district tournament.
Chase Bruns shot an 80 in the Division II sectional tournament Thursday at Hawthorne Hills Golf Course, and needed five playoff holes to earn the final district spot.
Elijah Kahlig, a 2014 FRHS graduate, qualified for the district tournament last season.
Bruns led the Indians to a team score of 343 and a fourth-place finish in the 14-team tournament.
Jackson Hobbs (84) and Derek Backs (85) turned in the No. 2 and No. 3 scores respectively for the Indians. Nick Litmer rounded out the FRHS team score with a 94. Cole Wendel also competed, shooting a 95.

Minster tops Tribe
MINSTER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery volleyball team took the second set Tuesday, but couldn’t muster much else in a 25-22, 15-25, 25-11, 25-22 loss to the host Minster Wildcats.
Kendra Siefring led the Indians (6-9) with 16 kills and 19 digs. Tori Lennartz recorded 11 kills and 12 digs, and Morgan Lennartz had four blocks. Cassidy Rammel tallied 16 assists.
The FRHS junior varsity team also lost, 25-13, 25-20.
Grace Thien and Abby Wenning both had four kills. Alexis Bubp notched nine digs, Jill Roessner had seven assists and Thien added four blocks.

Tribe 8th wins
FORT RECOVERY — Clayton Pearson and Robby LeFevre both had two touchdowns Thursday in the Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade football team’s 30-14 win against the Parkway Panthers.
The seventh grade Indians lost, 20-6.
Pearson threw touchdown passes to Butch Schoen and Payton Jutte, and tossed a pair of two-point conversions to Jutte. He also hurled a two-point try to Schoen.
LeFever found the end zone on 31- and 11-yard rushing touchdowns.
For the FRMS seventh graders, Riley Pearson scooped up a fumble and returned it 42 yards for the only score.

Stars fall to Wayne
FORT WAYNE — Virginia Lagos got the South Adams girls soccer team on the board early, but the Starfires couldn’t hold off Wayne in a 4-1 loss to the host Generals.
In the fourth minute, Alexis Dellinger found Lagos, who then buried a right footer to put the Starfires (3-9) on top 1-0.
But Wayne’s Colleen Cerajewski scored two goals later in the half to put the Generals on top and they never looked back.
Jade Jauregui had four saves in goal.

SA tops Winchester
BERNE — South Adams’s volleyball team earned a three-game sweep of the visiting Winchester Golden Falcons on Thursday, 25-17, 28-26, 25-21.
Cindy In’tGroen had a team-high nine kills to lead the Starfires, who move to 9-11 on the season. Morgan Alberson recorded a team-high 19 digs, and Emma Rosswurm tallied 19 assists.
Kylie Grabau totaled eight kills and three blocks, Kylea Pierce and Lauren Smith both had 12 digs, and Rosswurm compiled 13 digs.
The Starfire junior varsity team also won, 25-14, 25-10.
Madi Wurster had six kills and two aces, Casi Evans notched eight aces and six digs and Shania Neal tallied three kills.

Stars netters lose
BERNE — Dexter Miller made easy work of his opponent.
It wasn’t the same for the rest of the Starfire tennis team in a 3-2 loss Thursday to the visiting Mississinewa Indians.
At No. 2 singles, Miller took care of Isaac Torres 6-1, 6-1. The Starfire No. 1 doubles team of Jared Grabau and Cole Myers picked up the only other victory, defeating Griffin and Dalton Brown, 6-4, 6-2.
David Muselman wasn’t able to win a game in a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Jerod May at No. 1 singles, and Cody Baker fell to Paxon Sample 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
The South Adams No. 2 doubles team of Kam DeLong and Marcus Teeter fell to Brandon Herring and Seth Graver, 6-4, 6-4.
