Jay County’s girls track team has yet to lose this season.
The Patriots moved to 6-0 Tuesday, scoring 69 points to finish in first place in a three-team meet with Allen County Athletic Conference foes Adams Central and South Adams.
South Adams was second with 60 points. The Adams Central Jets scored 27 points for third.
The Starfire boys won with 56 points, edging the Jets by six points. Jay County was third with 39.
Megan Wellman, Emma Laux, Ava Kunkler and Britlyn Dues all earned individual wins for the Patriot girls. Wellman took the 3,200-meter run in 12 minutes, 30 seconds, and Laux was victorious in the long jump with a distance of 14 feet, 3 inches. Kunkler placed first in the 400 dash in 1:04, and Dues won the 300 hurdles in 52.18 seconds.
Kunkler and Wellman teamed with Briana Muhlenkamp and Erika Kunkler to win the 4x800 relay (10:45), and the Kunklers joined Lexi Myers and Dues to win the 4x400 relay (4:26).
South Adams sophomore Caroline Kloepper won both sprint events, finishing with a time of 13 seconds in the 100 dash and 28.03 in the 200. Her classmate Olivia Von Gunten also placed first in a pair of events.
Von Gunten’s time of 2:29 in the 800 was 14 seconds ahead of Jay County’s Erika Kunkler, and she was nearly 20 seconds ahead of the field in the 1,600 with a time of 5:36.
Addie Wanner won the 100 hurdles in 16.61 seconds, and tied for first in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 8 inches.
South Adams’ Bailey McIntire won both boys distances races, finishing the 1,600 in 4:47 and the 3,200 in 10:31.
Drew LeFever was also a dual winner in the throwing events. He had a distance of 45 feet, 11 inches, in the shot put, and 128 feet, 11 inches, in the discus.
Isaiah Amstutz (200 - 24.14) and McGerran Clouser (400 - 56.02) earned the other two victories for the Starfires.
Jay County junior Nathan Heitkamp had his hand in two of the four victories for the Patriot boys. He won the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, 9 inches, and ran the first leg of the winning 4x100 relay with Ian Bentz, Alec Lewis and Kyle Blankenship.
Aaron Neal won the 110 hurdles in 17.83, and Andrew Trewyn claimed the top spot in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 8 inches.
