JCHS track falls to Tigers
MUNCIE — The Jay County High School girls track team dropped its first meet of the season Thursday, finishing second at Delta.
The Yorktown Tigers were first with 77 points, ahead of Jay County’s 56.5. The host Eagles were third with 22.5 points.
Yorktown also won the boys’ competition with 71 points. Delta was second with 55 points, and the Patriots were third with 30.
Emma Laux earned the only individual victory for the JCHS girls, taking the 200-meter dash in 27.53 seconds.
Jay County (7-1) also won the 4x800 relay in 10 minutes, 56 seconds, behind the efforts of Erika Kunkler, Megan Wellman, Briana Muhlenkamp and Kellie Fortkamp.
Wellman and Fortkamp turned in runner-up finishes in the 1,600 and 3,200 respectively. Ava Kunkler was second in the 800, and her younger sister Erika was second in the 400.
Jay County’s 4x100 relay team of Lucy Laux, Taylor Homan, Lexi Myers and Emma Laux finished as runner-up. Myers and the Kunkler sisters joined Britlyn Dues to finish second in the 4x400 relay.
For the JCHS boys, Aaron Neal was the only victor, winning the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 10 inches.
Nathan Heitkamp was second in the long jump, and joined Ian Bentz, Alec Lewis and Kyle Blankenship to finish second in the 4x100 relay. Tanner Craw, Dallas Dudelston, Tyler Leonhard and Luke Weaver combined to place runner-up in the 4x800 relay.
