Tennis blanks Indians

The Jay County girls tennis team moved to 3-2 on the season with a 5-0 sweep of sectional foe Union City on Tuesday.
At No. 1 singles, Jessica Kerrigan defeated Kianna Cleere 6-2, 6-0. Kyra Braun beat Katie Rasmiller 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, and the JCHS No. 3 singles player Shelby McClain didn’t lose a game against Rachel Crist in 6-0, 6-0 win.

Faith Parr and Emily Westgerdes defeated Tiffany Reagan and Christy Mote 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Abby Saxman and Abby Reier beat Audrey Sullenbarger and Emily Cline 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Francine Muhlenkamp won the only JV match for Jay County, 8-1 over Allie Conklin.

Jay falls to Leo
LEO — A four-run fourth inning propelled the Leo baseball team to a 6-2 victory Tuesday over Jay County.
The Patriots (7-6, 1-1 Allen County Athletic Conference) scored the first run of the game in the opening inning on an RBI single by Levi Long. Long finished with two singles.
Leo answered with a run in the bottom of the frame before padding its lead with four in the fourth. It tacked on one more in the fifth for a 6-1 advantage, until Jay County scored a run in the top of the sixth on an RBI bunt single by Andy Kohler to score Tanner Reynolds, who reached on a double.
Chandler Jacks also had two singles, with Ethan Myers and Mitchell Kunkler adding hits as well.
Long took the loss on the mound, giving up all six runs — five earned — on six hits. He walked seven and struck out two in five innings of work.

JC second, SA third
GENEVA — Jay County’s boys golf team finished in second place Tuesday in a four-team Allen County Athletic Conference match at Golf Club of the Limberlost.
Leo won with a team score of 157, and Jay County was the runner-up with 188. South Adams shot a 204 for third, and Adams Central was fourth with 228.
Jay Houck led the Patriots with a 40. Playing the front nine, he had the same score during his round of 78 en route to winning the South Adams Invitational championship.
Kyler Hudson followed Houck with a 44. Graham Haines and Nick Hayden both shot a 52 to complete the Patriots’ team score.
David Muselman paced South Adams with a 44. Jake Rife shot a 48, with Corbin Swygart and Nick Wurster following with a 55 and 57 respectively.
Nate Morris of Leo was the match medalist with a 1-under-par 35.

West Jay track wins
DUNKIRK — The West Jay Middle School boys and girls track teams both defeated Selma on Tuesday.
The girls won 60-40, and the boys earned a 54-46 victory.
Kensey Litton won two events for the Eagles, placing first in the 100-meter dash and the long jump. Randi Ferguson also finished first in a pair of events, winning the 100 and 200 hurdles events.
Kendal Garringer (high jump), Rheagan Shimp (shot put), Sophia Fugiett (1,600 run) and Callie Stigleman (200 dash) also picked up victories for West Jay.
Noah Harris won three events for the WJMS boys, placing first in the 110 hurdles, long jump and high jump. Nathaniel Lykins won the 400 dash, Cole Watson finished first in the 200 dash and Cameron Newsome won shot put.
