Indians fourth at Mercer Co. invite
FRHS boys golf
CELINA, Ohio — It’s not often that a golf team has to use the score of its fifth player.
Fort Recovery benefited from the rarity Tuesday.
The Indians placed fourth in the Mercer County Invitational at The Fox’s Den Golf Course.
The Indians’ team total of 380 tied Celina, but the Tribe’s fifth score — Micaiah Cox’s 104 — gave it the edge over the Bulldogs and Nate Langenkamp’s 110 in the tiebreaker.
St. Henry won the six-team tournament with a 366. Marion Local and Coldwater were second and third respectively with scores of 377 and 379. Parkway finished sixth.
Seniors Chase Bruns and Jackson Hobbs led the Tribe effort, posting matching scores of 90. Austin Faller followed with a 97, and Nick Litmer completed the team total by shooting a 103.
But it was Cox’s 104 that proved to be the advantage for the Indians, who played in their first invitational of the season.
Colt Grieshop also competed for the Tribe, finishing one stroke behind Cox with a 105.
St. Henry’s Kyle Naumann was the match medalist with a 79.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity squad won its invitational with a 444. St. Henry was runner-up with 454, and Celina placed third with 461.
Calvin Rammel shot 96 for medalist honors. Brandon Homan finished with a 107, and Austin Pohl had a 113. Aaron Lochtefeld rounded out the Indians’ team score with a 128.
