Laux scores 4 in victory

JCHS girls soccer

MONROEVILLE — Jay County was without its best scoring threat.
Lucy Laux made up for the absence of her teammate.
The Jay County High School sophomore scored four goals —?the first multi-goal game of her career — as the Patriot girls soccer team routed Heritage, 7-1.
Senior Gabbie Mann, who scored 30 goals last year and had a pair of scores in the season-opening loss to Richmond on Tuesday, did not play because of a leg injury.
The visiting Patriots (1-1, 1-0 Allen County Athletic Conference) peppered Heritage with 17 shots on goal.
Sophie Bader, a senior captain, notched her second goal in as many games, and also had an assist. Fellow captain Emma Laux scored her first goal of the season to go with a pair of assists, and Alexus Liette tallied her first career goal.
Senior Mariah Bailey and freshman Hannah Phillips also had assists. It was the first-career helper for Phillips.
Junior goalkeeper Lilly Rogers made five saves, two days after allowing five goals to the Red Devils.
Jay County travels to Muncie to take on the Burris Owls at 11 a.m. Saturday.
