South Adams golfers continue to win

FORT WAYNE — The Starfires have not lost a match this season.
South Adams’ girls golf team earned two victories Thursday in a three-team match against Fort Wayne North Side and South Side at McMillen Golf Course.
The Starfires (4-0) scored a season-best 184. The North Side Redskins were second with 222. South Side did not qualify for a team score.
Senior Sydney Willis made par three times on her way to her fourth consecutive medalist. She shot an 8-over par 40, her highest nine-hole score of the season.
Jaci Gorrell and Amy Schwartz posted new season-best scores with 44 and 48 respectively.
Gorrell shaved two strokes off her previous best, and Schwartz took off four strokes.
Kaiti Gorrell shot a 52 to complete the Starfires’ team total. Allyson Schwartz also competed, finishing with a 68.
Stars 2-0
FORT WAYNE — The South Adams High School volleyball team moved to 2-0 on the season Thursday.
The Starfires defeated Canterbury Cavaliers 25-12, 25-15, 25-17.
Cindy In’t Groen led the Starfire offense with eight kills, and Maddie Wurster recorded five. Kylie Grabau tallied four kills to go with her two aces.
Addie Wanner and Morgan Alberson had three kills apiece, and they led the way on defense with four and two blocks respectively.
Julia Grabau had four aces and 15 assists. Caralie Farlow and Alberson shared the team high with four digs each.
The Starfires travel to Denver to play in the North Miami Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Girls soccer falls
FORT WAYNE — With eight minutes remaining in the opening half, South Adams had a two-goal lead.
Then things started to fall apart for the visiting Starfires.
The Blackhawk Christian Braves scored two goals in the final eight minutes of the first half, then poured on four more in the second to beat the SAHS girls soccer team, 6-3.
Maddie Morgan and Lexi Dellinger scored their first goals of the season in the first half for South Adams (0-2). Morgan found the back of the net eight minutes into the contest, and 20 minutes later Dellinger buried a shot for a 2-0 lead.
But then the Braves answered with two quick goals to tie it at halftime. Dellinger netted her second mark of the game with 22 minutes remaining.
Mayia Curtis made 20 saves for South Adams.
Bearcats win
BERNE — South Adams’ boys tennis team fell to 1-1 on the season Thursday with a 3-2 loss to the Muncie Central Bearcats.
Dexter Miller and Marcus Teeter notched the only wins for South Adams (1-1). Miller defeated Clark Tinder at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-2, and at No. 3 singles Teeter won by the same score.
Muncie Central’s Khamasi Muhiga beat David Muselman at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
The Starfires’ No. 1 doubles team of Zach Teeple and Kam DeLong lost 6-4, 6-2 to Bobby Cunningham and Erich Ong. At No. 2 doubles, Jamison Kistler and Paul Stuckey fell to Kaes Petroviak and Boyd McCoy 6-1, 6-1.
