Last week at Delta: The Patriots were doomed from the start when the Delta Eagles returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. The Eagles threw for more than 200 yards, and running back Zach Mills four total touchdowns in a 63-0 victory against Jay County. The Patriots had 153 yards of total offense, compared to Delta’s 368.
Season leaders: Passing — Holton Hill – 6-of-12 for 43 yards and two interceptions. Rushing — Drew Huffman – six carries for 47 yards. Receiving — Aaron Neal – three receptions for 23 yards. Defense — Ethan Theurer, Bryan Stancliffe and Thomas Noble – six tackles apiece.

Blackford Bruins
Hartford City, 0-1
Coach: Steve Rinker, sixth year (15th overall)
Conference: Central Indiana
Last week vs. Fremont: The visiting Fremont Eagles took a 7-0 lead into halftime and added 12 more points in the fourth quarter for a 19-0 victory in Hartford City. The Bruins gained more than 200 yards on the ground but were not able to find the end zone.
Season leaders: Passing — Chase Mahan – 4-of-14 for 29 yards and two interceptions. Rushing — Mahan – 11 carries for 74 yards. Receiving — Jacob Confer – three receptions for 21 yards. Defense — Devon Kirkwood – five tackles.

Last season: Jay County had 342 total yards of offense — all but three of it rushing — in a 21-14 victory in Hartford City. Patriot running backs Drew Huffman (158)?and Levi Stant (108)?both eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark. Kien Gee had 94 rushing yards for the Bruins.

Game notes: Jay County has won each of the last six seasons and eight out of the last 10. The Patriots are 27-15 all-time against the Bruins ... Blackford has scored against Jay County every year since 1989. That season the Patriots shut out the Bruins 39-0 ... The Bruins are coming off a year during which they went 3-7. They have not had a winning season since 2008.
