Jay boys third at Norwell
OSSIAN — The Patriots had one swimmer finish in the top eight in all but two races.
Jay County High School’s boys swim team placed third Saturday in the Norwell Invitational.
Oak Hill won the nine-team meet with 429 points. Bluffton was second with 375.5 points, ahead of Jay County by more than 100 points. The Patriots totaled 274.5. South Adams was fourth with 262 points.
JCHS senior Sok Vormohr was the lone Patriot to earn a victory, doing so in the 100-yard freestyle in 51.97 seconds. He was also the runner-up in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.56 seconds.
Christopher McDowell earned a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (2 minutes, 2.94 seconds) and 500 freestyle (5:36.28). Connor Daniels was sixth in both the 200 freestyle (2:07.73) and the 100 freestyle (54.89). Travis Barton placed seventh in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:08.95, and Jason Minnich’s time of 56 seconds was eighth in the 100 freestyle.
Barton, Daniels and Vormohr teamed with Minnich to place third in the 200 freestyle relay, and the trio joined McDowell to finish fourth in the 400 freestyle relay.
Thomas Boozier, Garrett Campbell, McDowell and Minnich were sixth in the 200 medley relay.
Daniel Burson, Zach Teeple and David Steffen all earned a pair of third-place finishes for South Adams. Burson did so in the 200 freestyle (1:57.8) and 500 freestyle (5:36.22), and Teeple swam the 200 IM (1:57.8) and 100 backstroke (1:03) events. Steffen competed in the 50 freestyle (23.9) and 100 butterfly (1:00.71).
Daniel Steffen was also third in the 100 breaststroke, with Zach Colpaert and Xavier Rupp finishing eighth in the 50 freestyle (24.72) and 100 butterfly (1:06.06) respectively.
Colpaert, Teeple, Burson and David Steffen finished second in the 200 freestyle relay.
