Thien has career day in Tribe win
Fort Recovery High School girls basketball
GREENVILLE — Grace Thien nearly out-shot the Green Wave.
She almost scored as many points, too.
Thien poured in a career-high 21 points, 15 of which came in the first half, helping the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team to a 63-33 clubbing of the Greenville Green Wave on Monday.
It was the sixth win in a row for the Indians (6-1), who dropped their season opener Nov. 28 to Wapakoneta, 43-41.
The game was tied at two in the opening minute before Thien nailed two buckets and a 3-pointer to start a streak of 21 straight points for the Indians.
She added two more triples later in the run and finished 5-of-10 from long range for the game. She was 8-for-17 from the field with 13 points in the opening quarter. Thien also had a game-high nine rebounds.
The Indians led 25-4 after eight minutes of play.
Greenville, which shot 11-of-30, finally reached double digits nearly two minutes into the second quarter thanks to Cassie Cromwell scoring eight straight points for the Green Wave. She finished with a team-high 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
The Indians led 39-19 at half, and maintained the 20-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
Kendra Siefring followed Thien with a 15-point effort to go with her seven rebounds. She also had a pair of blocks, two assists and a couple of steals.
Whitney Will and Jocelyn Kaiser added eight and seven points respectively. Mikayla Post had six points off the bench, and Kiah Wendel chipped in with four points.
Carley Stone, who has been nursing an ankle injury she suffered Thursday against New Bremen, started but played just 12 minutes. She scored two points and grabbed a pair of rebounds.
Junior Varsity
Hannah Knapke and Brooke Gaerke both reached double figures as Fort Recovery won its first game of the season Monday, 37-32.
Knapke had a game-high 13 points and grabbed a team-leading 10 rebounds to record a double-double for the Indians (1-5). Gaerke followed with 10 points to go with her five rebounds. Chloe Metzger had eight points, Aleigha Jenkins chipped in with four and Claire Metzger added two points.
Koryann Elliott led the Green Wave with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
