Chief girls win 15th straight game

The East Jay Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team ended its season in the same fashion it has nearly all year, with a victory.
East Jay (18-1) defeated Delta 21-15 on Thursday to win its 15th-consecutive game. Its only loss of the season was a 45-43 defeat to Winchester Driver on Dec. 1.
The Chief seventh graders lost to the Eagles, 36-16.
Despite going the second quarter without a point and trailing 13-7 at halftime, the eighth graders came out firing in the third, scoring nine points and keeping the Eagles off the scoreboard. East Jay limited Delta to just two points in the final quarter to put the game away.
Klarisa Hemmelgarn had led the Chiefs with eight points, and Kendra Muhlenkamp tallied six. Hannah Phillips and Sammie Twigg scored four and two points respectively, and Hanna Dillon had one point.
Sara Muhlenkamp led the seventh graders with six points. Taylor May, Kristy Robbins, Anhely Montes, Shadie Canterbury and Hannah James all had two points.
EJ tops Stars
East Jay’s wrestling team picked up a 60-27 victory over South Adams on Thursday, pushing its record to 6-0 for the season.
Earning victories for East Jay were Ian Liette (85-pound weight class), Hunter Mills (102), Brian Newman (117), Mason Winner (132) and Thomas Hemmelgarn (140).
Dawson Frasher (150), Daniel Ostrowski (175), Lucas Schmit (195), Cooper Jacks (220) and Bailey Ludy (HWT) also won their respective matches.
Tribe fall in tourney
ST. HENRY, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s eighth grade girls basketball dropped its Midwest Athletic Conference tournament opener on Thursday at St. Henry.
The Indians lost to Coldwater 25-19.
Faith Kahlig had a team-high seven points for Fort Recovery, which also got four points from Hannah Knapke. Brooke Gaerke totaled three points, Aleigha Jenkins and Brooke Kahlig had two points each, and Audrey Guggenbiller talled one point.
