JC gets win to begin season

The Jay County middle school girls swim team opened its season with a 106-79 victory against Delta on Monday.
Jay County’s boys lost 113-55.
Eliza Bader, Ashlyn Dow and Lilly Clemmons were all double winners for Jay County. Bader won the 100-yard butterfly and 100 breaststroke, Dow took first in the 100 individual medley and the 400 freestyle and Clemmons earned victories in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
The trio joined Kaitlyn Dow to win the 200 medley and the 400 freestyle relays.
Tayler Smeltzer won the only two events for the boys, taking first in the 100 IM and the 100 butterfly.
Finishing runner-up for the girls were Katilyn Dow (100 and 200 freestyle), Rieley Brewster (100 butterfly) and Kaitlyn Hicks (100 breaststroke).
Ben Strausburg (200 freestyle), Chase McFarland (100 backstroke), Sammy Crump (50 freestyle) and Matthew Minnich (100 breaststroke) all finished second for the boys’ squad.

Chiefs fall
East Jay Middle School’s sixth grade boys basketball teams dropped a pair of games to the Muncie Northside Titans on Monday.
The Chiefs’ A team was doubled up, 48-24, and the EJMS B squad fell 38-19.
Griffin Man led the A team with eight points, and Brody Auker and Landon Grimes each chipped in with six points. Bailey Cox tallied four points in the loss.
John Candelaria led the B team with six points. Ryan Van Cise and Logan McGinnis each recorded four points. Brian Zhang contributed three points, and Logan Ballard had two points.
