Indians to open against Cardinals

Fort Recovery’s boys basketball team will open the Division IV Wapakoneta district tournament against conference rival New Bremen.
The Tribe (6-13) will meet the Cardinals in the sectional semifinal at 8 p.m. March 4 at Coldwater. Ada will take on Arlington in the other sectional semifinal, with the winners advancing to the championship game at 8 p.m. March 6.
In the other Coldwater sectional, Ridgemont will play Waynesfield-Goshen, with the winner advancing to the championship against Marion Local.
The sectional champions advance to the district semifinal at 6:15 March 10 at Wapakoneta.
The bottom half of the bracket features two sectionals at Lima Bath. The first has Minster playing Hardin Northern in the semifinal, with the victor to meet Spencerville in the championship. In the other sectional, Lima Perry will meet the winner of Upper Scioto Valley and New Knoxville. The bottom district semifinal will be at 8 p.m. March 10, and the district championship is slated for 7 p.m. March 13.
Girls hoops falls
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s girls basketball team had a narrow lead heading into intermission on Saturday.
The advantage slipped away in the second half in a 50-45 loss to the Tri-Village Patriots.
Fort Recovery (14-6) led 28-24 at intermission, but could not hang on down the stretch. After shooting 52 percent from the field in the first half, the Indians shot 37 percent after the break.
Jocelyn Kaiser paced the Tribe with 15 points and four assists. Whitney Will added 12 points and four rebounds, and Grace Thien tallied nine points to go with her team-high six rebounds.
Raya Mikesell of Tri-Village led all players with 22 points.
The FRHS junior varsity squad defeated the Patriots, 33-29.
Kiah Wendel tallied a game-high 10 points for the Indians. Devin Post scored seven points and Chloe Metzger chipped in with six points.
Five tankers advance
AYERSVILLE, Ohio — Five Indians get to swim at least one more week.
In the Division II Northwest District sectional meet on Saturday at Ayersville, five Indians earned berths in the district meet. Four of them qualified as individuals.
Sophie Timmerman, Carley Stone and Cori Stone all qualified in two individual events. Timmerman was second Saturday in the 100-yard breaststroke and eighth in the 200 freestyle. Cori Stone was second and third respectively in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, and her younger sister Carley was second in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 50 freestyle.
Alexis Bubp qualified for the district meet by finishing second in the 100 freestyle.
The quartet teamed up to finish second in the 200 medley relay, with Bubp, the Stones and Olivia Acheson finishing third in the 400 freestyle relay.
The district meet begins Friday at Bowling Green State University.
