Patriot tumblers second at Carroll

FORT WAYNE — Jay County sophomore Lizzy Schoenlein earned a pair of top three finishes Monday as the Patriot gymnastics team was runner-up in a meet at Carroll.
The No. 8 Chargers scored 105.95 to win the three-team meet. Jay County scored 98.35 points, and the Heritage Patriots were third with 94.8 points.
Schoenlein had a 9.3 on the floor exercise to place second, and was also third on the uneven bars with a score of 8.6. She placed sixth in the all-around competition with a score of 33.8.
Malarie Houck, the lone Jay County senior, was fifth in both the vault (8.6) and balance beam (8.2).
The Patriots’ next meet is at 6 p.m. tonight as they play host to the Huntington North Vikings.
Indians roll over EJ
GAS CITY — The East Jay Middle School sixth grade boys basketball teams both dropped games to the R.J. Baskett Indians on Monday.
The Chiefs’ A team lost 71-22, and the B team fell 56-8.
Griffin Mann and Brody Auker scored eight and seven points respectively for the East Jay A team.
Landon Grimes and Bailey Cox each had three points, and Nicholas Fields added one point.
Brian Zhang scored four points to lead the B team. Which also got two points apiece from Ryan Van Cise and Andrew Brinkerhoff.
