Patriot gymnasts knock off two

NEW CASTLE — The Patriots saw their three-year winning streak come to a close Feb. 17, but they bounced back Wednseday.
Jay County High School’s gymnastics team scored 99.55 points to defeat the host New Castle Trojans and Muncie Central Bearcats.
Team scores for New Castle and Muncie Central were not available.
Sophomore Lizzy Schoenlein and freshman Courtney Miles both earned a pair of individual victories. Schoenlein took first on the floor exercise with a 9.2. Miles, who returned to competition after more than a month because of a foot injury, scored an 8.075 for a win on the uneven bars.
Schoenlein, who finished second in the all-around competition with a 33.875, was second in both the vault (8.75) and bars (7.925). Her score of 8.0 on the beam was fourth.
Senior Malarie Houck was second on the beam (8.3), third on both the vault (8.7) and beam (7.825), and finished fourth on the floor with an 8.55. Her all-around score of 33.375 was also third.
Sydnee Lee (fifth – vault), and Maddie Strausburg (sixth – vault) also finished in the top six for Jay County.

Three named All-MAC
A trio of Fort Recovery High School girls basketball players were named All-Midwest Athletic Conference on Wednesday.
Tori Lennartz was the lone recipient of first-team honors. The senior has led the Indians to a 17-6 record and a berth in the sectional championship game. She is averaging 11.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for the Tribe.
Sophomore Jocelyn Kaiser and junior Kendra Siefring were named to the second team. Siefring is second on the team in scoring (9.2 PPG) and also grabs 5.2 rebounds per game. Kaiser averages 8.2 points per game, and is shooting an even 50 percent from the field.
Freshman Grace Thien was given honorable mention.
