DUNKIRK — With the help of seven forfeits, the East Jay Middle School wrestling team defeated county rival West Jay on Thursday by a score of 66-30.
Without the forfeits — West Jay benefited from two — the Chiefs would have edged the Eagles 24-18.
Picking up victories by pin for East Jay were Ian Liette (85-pound weight class), Chandler Chapman (132) and Bailey Ludy (heavyweight). Jacob Hutchins (95) and Brian Newman (110) won by decision.
Johnathan Pierce (117), Andrew Toney (150) and Nathaniel Lykins all won by pin for the host Eagles.
Zach Twigg, Skyler Myers, Dylan Racster, Mason Winner, Thomas Hemmelgarn, Daniel Ostrowski and Cooper Jacks all picked up victories by forfeit for East Jay.
Earning wins by forfeit for West Jay were Malcolm McIntire and Larkin Alsip.

MONROE — The South Adams Middle School boys and girls swim teams defeated county rival Adams Central on Thursday.
The Starfire girls squad won 113-70, and the boys won 88-51.
Isabella Bailey and Ashley LeFever were both dual winners for the SAMS girls. Bailey won both the 100-yard individual medley and the 100 breaststroke, and LeFever finished first in the 50 and 100 freestyle races.
Gaby Bailey (50 butterfly) and Isabel VonGunten (100 backstroke) also won for the Starfires, who swept all three relays.
Parker Collingsworth and Ethan Duff won a pair of events for the Starfire boys. Duff won the 100 IM and 50 butterfly, while Collingsworth handled the 200 and 500 freestyle events.
Michale Richardson (50 freestyle), Gavin Bullock (100 freestyle), Grady Sprunger (100 backstroke) and Curtis Sprunger (100 breaststroke) also won for the boys. South Adams also won the 200 and 300 freestyle relays.
Three earn all-state
A trio of Jay County High School wrestlers were given academic all-state honors by the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association.
Levi Hummel and Colton Compton were named to the first team junior academic all-state.
Jon Blankenship received honorable mention for the senior academic all-state.
