Tribe rally falls short at New Bremen

Local roundup

NEW BREMEN, Ohio — The Indians and Cardinals started out slow on Thursday.
They combined to shoot just 19 percent from the field in the first half.
But once shots started to fall for the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team, the same was true for New Bremen.
The Tribe fell to 1-2 in Midwest Athletic Conference play with a 36-33 loss to the Cardinals.
Fort Recovery (5-3) had a 9-4 lead midway through the second quarter, but New Bremen scored the final nine points of the half to lead 13-9 after 16 minutes.
The Cardinals built a nine-point lead in the third quarter, and buckets by Kendra Siefring, Carley Stone and Tori Lennartz got the Indians to within two, 25-23, in the final minute of the frame.
New Bremen got its advantage back up to eight points with less than two minutes to play. Grace Thien and Whitney Will scored the next seven points, cutting the deficit to 34-33, but two free throws by Alyse Clune put the game away for the Cardinals.
Lennartz led the Indians with 11 points and six rebounds, and Cassidy Rammel and Thien both had five points.
Siefring, Stone and Will all tallied four points.
Clune led all players with 14 points, and Debbie Paul grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
