Patriot tankers defeat Bearcats

MUNCIE — The streak is over.
The Jay County High School girls swim team snapped a span of 15 straight years of losing to Muncie Central with a 112-74 victory Tuesday.
Jay County’s boys team fell to the Bearcats, 120-65.
Anne Vormohr, Sophie Bader and Alex Bader all had their hands in four of the 11 victories for Jay County, which has finished runner-up to the Bearcats at sectional the last four years.
Sophie Bader took first in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly, her younger sister Alex was first in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke, and their cousin Vormohr won the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
The trio also teamed up with Katy Smeltzer to win the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
Ashley Mark earned the top spot in the 500 freestyle, and joined Elizabeth McDowell, Jamie Valentine and Cassie Reno to win the 200 medley relay.
Heather Stinson won the diving event for the Patriots.
Conner Daniels, Cody White and Christian Phillips earned the only three victories for the Jay County boys. Daniels won the 50 freestyle, White took first in the 100 breaststroke and Phillips was victorious in diving.
