Frontline claims Minor title
Junior League roundup
It took three games to do so, but Frontline Construction is Junior League champions.
After losing 18-5 to No. 2 seed Fisher Meats on Wednesday in Minor softball action, top-seeded Frontline held off No. 3 seed First Bank of Berne 10-9 in seven innings in the loser’s bracket.
Then, Frontline avenged its loss earlier in the day with a 10-7 victory over Fisher.
Maddy Wenk and Laci McGinnis both had two hits and scored twice for Frontline in the title game. Kristen Wendel and Tricia Ison had three hits and one run apiece, and Aubrie Schwieterman had a hit and scored twice.
Lauren Brewster had three hits and scored three times in the losing effort for Fisher. Rieley Brewster had two hits and also scored once. Grace Brewster and Keaston Myers had a hit and one run apiece.
Grace Brewster and Myers led Fisher in the win earlier in the evening, tallying three hits each. Rieley Brewster contributed a pair of triples and a doubles.
MainSource reaches final
MainSource Bank won a pair of games Wednesday to reach the final of the Willie Mays tournament.
MainSource defeated Minnich Architecture & Construction 9-3 and knocked off Portland Optimist 10-9.
It will play Inman U-Lock in the title game.
Keagan Hartzell had a triple and two singles to lead MainSource against Optimist. Trenton Webster smacked a triple and a double, and Cody Rowles added a double and a single.
Cameron Clark, Blake Huftel and Jayden Hartzel each had singles in the win.
Taron Bentz paced Optimist with a pair of singles. Lance McCowan and Justin Hoover both had a single.
Keagan Hartzel accounted for both MainSource hits against Minnich, hitting a pair of doubles.
Kaleb Elam had two hits, and Zac McAbee had one for Minnich.
