BERNE — The Jay County Summer Swim Team wrapped up its season with a commanding victory.
It scored 2,838 points Saturday to win the Wabash Valley Conference meet at Berne Pool. It won 37 of the 60 individual events and 17 of the 20 relay races.
Host South Adams finished second with 1,592 points. Wells Community was third with 1,415 points, Bellmont placed fourth with 1,146 points and Adams Central scored 209 points for fifth.
Jay County was 9-0 in dual meets this season, and hasn’t lost since 2012.
Six swimmers earned conference championships in three events Saturday.
Maddy Snow placed first in the 8-and-younger girls butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke. Mara Bader was victorious in the 9-10-year-old girls long freestyle, butterfly and IM, and her sister Eliza Bader won the 11-12-year-old girls butterfly, IM and breaststroke.
Anne Vormohr won the 15-and-older girls long freestyle, short freestyle and backstroke; Sophie Bader placed first in the 15-and-older girls butterfly, IM and breaststroke and Sok Vormohr earned wins in the 15-and-older long freestyle, short freestyle and butterfly.
An additional six swimmers were two-time conference champions, including Morgan DeHoff (8-and-younger girls backstroke and short freestyle), Levi Muhlenkamp (8-and-younger boys butterfly and short freestyle), Sophie Saxman (9-10-year-old girls breaststroke and short freestyle), Josh Monroe (9-10-year-old boys IM and breaststroke), Ashlyn Dow (11-12 girls long freestyle and short freestyle) and Elizabeth McDowell (13-14-year-old girls long freestyle and backstroke).
Seven swimmers also claimed individual titles, including Lillian Clemmons (11-12-year-old girls backstroke), Juan Pablo Wiggins (11-12-year-old boys long freestyle), Kaitlyn Dow (13-14-year-old girls butterfly), Erica Hathaway (13-14-year-old girls individual medley), Jason Minnich (13-14-year-old boys long freestyle), Christopher McDowell (13-14-year-old boys backstroke) and Luke Nichols (13-14-year-old boys breaststroke).
