Rockets win three of four on road trip
Portland Rockets
SOUTH BEND — The Portland Rockets bounced back from their loss Tuesday to take three out of four games in South Bend over the weekend.
The Rockets (11-3) swept the Mishawaka Brewers on Saturday with 11-1 and 7-0 victories. Sunday, Portland won the first game 7-2 against the South Bend Cardinals before losing 7-6 on a walk off hit.
Dalton Tinsley paced the Portland offense by totaling nine hits, including a home run.
A highlight on Saturday was the return of Justin Marrero, who scored from second on a sacrifice fly. Chris Miller sent a fly ball to deep right center field, and after the fielder caught it he fell to the ground and Marerro never broke stride.
Mitch Waters, a 2002 Jay County High School graduate, and SAHS product Dan Bollenbacher earned victories on Saturday. Waters scattered six hits for his third win of the season, and Bollenbacher surrendered three hits in his shutout — the second time this season the Rockets have held a team scoreless.
Muncie Southside graduate Tyler Reynolds earned the win in the first game of the twinbill on Father’s Day. He gave up five hits in six innings of work. TJ Lindstrand and Collin Affolder had two hits apiece.
Portland’s six-game road swing continues Wednesday with a trip to the Northeast Kekionga at Indiana Tech, before returning home for a doubleheader Saturday against the Fort Wayne Expos.
First pitch Saturday is slated for 1 p.m.
