Smeltzer, Dow lead Jay Co.

Tayler Smeltzer and Kaitlyn Dow were both double-event winners Monday in the Jay County middle school swim meet against the Muncie Northside Titans.
Dow won both the 50- and 400-yard freestyle races, helping the girls to a 179-116 victory.
Smeltzer took first in the 200 freestyle and the 50 butterfly in the boys’ 133-109 loss to the Titans.
Eliza Bader, Kaitlyn Hicks, Lilli Clemmons and Ashlyn Dow won single events for the girls. Bader took first in the 50 butterfly, Hicks won the 100 freestyle, Clemmons earned a victory in the 100 backstroke and Dow was first in the 100 breaststroke.
Clemmons, Bader and both Dows teamed to win the 200 medley relay. Jenna Dunfee, Emma James, Kearsten Myers and Hicks combined to win the 300 freestyle relay.
Chloe Campbell, Payton Bailey, Hanna James and Clemmons took second in the 300 freestyle relay.
Leah Hummel (diving), Kelly Strausburg (100 individual medley), Kailee Denney (50 freestyle), Reiely Brewster (50 butterfly) and Dunfee (200 freestyle and 100 backstroke) all finished second.
Finishing second for the boys squad were Chase McFarland (100 backstroke), Ben Strausburg (100 IM and 50 butterfly), Sammy Crump (50 freestyle) and Matthew Minnich (100 breaststroke).
Smeltzer, Strausburg and Minnich joined McFarland to finish second in the medley relay, and they were also runner-up in the 200 freestyle relay with Sammy Crump.
